Okay, so I've written basically nothing about this anywhere except for in personal servers and whatnot, so here's the whole situation: I'm a now-second-year university student, and I'm at the point where I need a job. I live fairly comfortably with family, but I want to have my own spending money without begging my mom/desperately need something to do outside of schoolwork.
So, I've signed up for all those job sites and applied to basically everything under the sun. I've learned a lot about how corporations post jobs, and I think every shareholder needs to die immediately!!! Most companies have listings or claim to be hiring because it looks good and makes it seem like the company is growing, which shareholders like; this means half of the jobs you see online probably aren't real! I saw at least one corporate website say that they weren't actively hiring, but were keeping the listing open to keep "acquiring talent". Girl, I need a job yesterday, don't waste my time!
Some companies were funny about it. I was rejected from one company because I wasn't going to have complete availability until finals week, and another instantly rejected me, citing people with "better experience"—that's fine and all, but I had literally just submitted my application. Not even an AI filtering service would've been able to process it. Other companies have yet to get back to me, and I applied probably two months ago by now.
One company reached out to me for an interview—the only one—and you bet your ass I jumped on that immediately. I scheduled it for after my food bank volunteer hours that week, and the interview went awesome! Turns out the manager/my interviewer and another employee at that location had also gone to my uni, and he was also impressed with my ranch experience, which I think gave me a leg up. He told me he'd make a final decision the following Wednesday (it was Thursday,) so I thanked him for his time and went to the neighbouring candy store to get a sweet treat.
One week later, I wake up earlier than usual and hear nothing. At some point I remembered he worked later in the afternoon, so I waited until then to actually freak out. About an hour and a half in, I decide to call myself. After being put on hold more times than I thought were possible, I was told I'd get a call back ASAP. And I did!! It wasn't the manager, but another employee who said I was offered a job—and I took it! I'm (almost) officially employed!! WAHOO!!
For obvious reasons, I'm not naming who hired me. Anyone who works there will probably be able to tell who I am immediately, and I'm just hoping this isn't an insane enough thing to be fired over :') Literally today I had to tell another prospective employer that I found a job already when she asked to schedule an interview with me. And obviously my opinions are my own blah blah blah
This means I'll probably be working on my website even less than I already am. Oops! At least I'll have money. I'm going to look up if it's appropriate to ask what made them choose me over another candidate, because I'm honestly really curious if it was the ranch thing or something else.
