When moving to the ranch, we were required to have a certain amount of animals to satisfy the zoning requirements (or something...) so there are quite a few goats that I take care of! There are some other animals too, such as horses and cows, but I don't currently have permission to post them as they aren't mine. I will, however, introduce you to my goats :)
There are ten in all. We used to have more, but we had to downsize at some point due to them being expensive to take care of, and as they're all senior citizens we've had a handful pass away. Some who were previously featured on this page may be found on the memorial page now.
Annapurna is one of the Nubian goats on the ranch. She's pretty mellow and very friendly, but she's not a huge fan of being touched on her face. She likes treats and the texture of boots. Since her sister passed away, it's been revealed that she's acutally the dumbest goat on earth. I'm not even certain she knows she exists.
Butterscotch (B-Scotch for short) is some sort of Alpine-Nubian mix. She's the most tolerant goat of the bunch, and is extremely food motivated. She won't usually approach people unless she believes they have food, and will fight other goats both for food and dumb things. She got to go on a car ride to the vet once :)
Captain Pammy (known simply as Pamela) is another Alpine-Nubian mix. She's very skittish, but the shyness goes away the moment she realizes you have any sort of food. Otherwise, she prefers to observe humans and keep her distance. She's fairly easily startled and has a decent memory. She also will fight for just about anything, and tends to keep her hackles raised.
Daisy Alexander Graham Bell is the former leader of the goats. She's very friendly toward humans, but seems to hate her fellow goats. If you ever annoy her, she'll find the closest goat to take her anger out on before coming back and loving on you. She has a habit of stalling to keep you in the pen longer.
Daniella is an extremely skittish goat. She'll come up and sniff you, feel your hair, munch on your clothes... until you make eye contact with her, and then you're the boogeyman. She hates being touched on her head or face, but does appreciate a good treat every now and then. She has a girlfriend named Priscilla who occasionally beats on her.
Macaulay Culkin is a deer trapped in a goat's body. It took about two years for her to be relatively okay with me, and she still runs away from me half of the time. When she's not afraid, she'll come up and try to yank all the hair out of my head. She's also the current queen of the herd, so everything she says goes.
Mackinaw is a creature unknown to science. She's somewhere between Pamela and Daniela on the skittish scale, sometimes being friendly and sometimes not. She seems to be in a relatively low position in the herd, since everyone bullies her away from the food. She can feed herself, but if she sees a human, she'll make like a seal and pretend she has no idea how to eat ever.
Priscilla is the ambassador of the herd. She's almost always the first one to approach strangers and is incredibly friendly with everyone, including the other goats. She's the greediest goat of the bunch, and will do tricks for treats. She has a girlfriend named Daniella that she likes to beat on, but she does genuinely care about her.
Rocket is a very sweet Nubian goat. She's friendly and mostly tolerant, and the kids who visit love her. She hates being handled (and the vet.) One time she screamed like she was being murdered because she had her feet trimmed. She loves treats and having her butt scratched; once she decides you're a butt scratcher, it's all you're good for.
Last but most certainly not least, the Snail! Even though I shouldn't play favourites, she's absolutely my favourite. She paws and jumps at you when you need something, and has recently discovered that she gets rewarded with treat when I ask her to jump. She seems to like me just as much, rubbing her head on mine whenever I'm at her height.
