KING RAT'S COMPUTER DEN

I feel like growing up the way I did was guaranteed to make me a nerd for all things old tech. My dad works with computers and even built me a PC when I was younger, and until I moved out I would always watch him do whatever crazy stuff he was doing. Of course, he wasn't hacking into some mainframe, but it was pretty cool to see him rip apart our 2013 iMac to see if he could fix some speed issues. He's installed Linux onto all of his computers (Ubuntu, if you care), and has some weird jury-rigged setup between his Linux computer, his Windows PC, and an old Surface Pro he's also installed Linux onto (the damn thing is 10 years old).

Aside his computer shenanigans, I also used to watch him play video games a ton as a kid. He would play anything from the most recent stuff to stuff that came out when he was little, and I was always super interested. During my early high school years, he'd play the Sega Ages version of Phantasy Star while we waited for his girlfriend to get ready so we could leave. Phantasy Star and the other games in its original run have become some of my favourite games ever, even if I've never played them (or gotten very far in them). My favourite one is III, if it matters, though I hear that's the worst one.

Growing up in the 21st century has also presented me with a fairly unique opportunity (compared to the past), where pretty much any game I want to play is at my fingertips. While I probably legally have to give you the whole spiel about how piracy is illegal, there are websites out there that you can play old games without downloading anything. Before I learned anything about actual, honest-to-god piracy, those were my places to go. In fact, they still are sometimes, since I have a weird amount of trouble using MAME.

In this part of my website, you'll see me talk a lot about nerd shit. Each page linked on the sidebar will take you to a section talking about a different computer and/or console. The silly names I've tried to give each page aren't very good, but I hope you enjoy it regardless.
