Apparently, some zoning law required my mom and I to get a certain amount of an animal when we were dealing with our house. We ended up with 50 goats, all rescued from a dairy farm who are here on retirement. Many died over the winter due to their age (or potentially other mishaps I wasn't there for, but no predators). We then thinned the herd about a year later, but there are still 13 adorable little babies that I dote on every day.
Is someone missing? Unfortunately, they may have passed away.
Annapurna is one of the Nubians. She's a pretty mellow goat and is pretty friendly, though she's not a huge fan of being pet. Sometimes she'll let you touch her, but avoid her forehead. She has the longest ears of them all, and is a fan of sunbathing.
Butterscotch, sometimes called Scutterbotch, is some breed of goat. She's very friendly and is always ready to eat, and gets really impatient waiting for me to feed her. She doesn't fight over food, but she will fight for any other reason. She won't usually approach familiar people, but she doesn't mind them approaching her.
Captain Pammy (Pamela for short) is an Alpine and Nubian mix. She's pretty skittish, but will stare at you from afar if you keep your distance. She's not very big on touch and will usually move away from you if you try to pet her. The only time she's not averse to human contact is if there's food involved, but she'll never let you touch her.
Daisy is the queen of the herd. She's friendly with pretty much everyone, but is awfully mean to the other goats. She'll never be aggressive to a human, but I would still exercise caution, since she's not the most careful with her horns and it can hurt when she rubs up on you. She's extremely calm outside her outbursts at the other goats.
Daniella is a little idiot baby. She'll come up really close to you and sniff you, eat your hair, eat your clothes, and rub all over you. Despite her being so friendly, if you even so much as look at her she'll stop and forget she was ever interested in you! God forbid you try to pet her, she rarely ever lets that happen. Just let her investigate you... forever!!!
Joker (Jonker, Jorker) is the Nubian ever. She's not huge on having your face close to hers unless she's the reason it's happening. She's naturally very curious and follows me basically everywhere. Recently she's been doing everything possible to retain my attention, including pushing other goats out of the way with her full body weight if I'm giving them any sort of attention.
Macaulay is a deer trapped in a goat's body. She's very skittish and runs away the moment you're too close, but when she's not focused on food, she'll come up and sniff me, and has recently been pretty good about letting me pet her, even letting me give her some kisses on her face! However, she does this with the main goal of eventually eating me or my clothes, and I'm still not sure if this is because she thinks I'm food, has decided she's going to be carnivore, or is just really curious.
Mackinaw is a creature unknown to science. She's pretty afraid of everything when she's standing, but the moment she's sitting down she'll let me love all over her. She's an avid hair eater and thinks it's better than alfalfa. Her horns also grew in weirdly due to a botched debudding attempt, but it doesn't seem to be bothering her... My legs, on the other hand, are very bruised from her attempts at love.
Priscilla is another Alpine-Nubian mix, but she got a lot more of the Nubian than Pamela did. She's usually the first one to approach strangers, and is incredibly friendly with everyone, including the other goats. She's like the over-enthusiastic camp counselor who always ends up working with the kids and doesn't seem to know how to act around anyone else. She's pretty mellow and will let you sit with her, but I wouldn't push your luck.
Rocket is the sweetest Nubian ever. She's really friendly and pretty tolerant, though spending a lot of time with my little cousin and her friends has made her dislike being handled outside of little light hugs and kisses. She loves being pet and is the first goat I ever observed happy tail in.
Shortbread is a (relatively) young Alpine afraid of her own shadow. She's pretty tiny compared to the others, and very rarely lets people get close to her, and often won't even approach a human if she has the opporunity to. If she sniffs and rubs on you, don't touch her, because she'll just run away again. She spends most of her time around Shiva and Daniella, and I wonder if they're friends sometimes. She has the tiniest bleat you'll ever hear—it sounds more like tiny squeaks.
Snail is my little big stupid. We think she was supposed to be Sinai, but her name had a typo on the document I was given, so I just call her Snail instead. She's my favourite goat out of them all, and is a very insistent little fucker. She paws and jumps if you aren't quick enough to give her what she needs, and like all Nubians, she is very loud. She seems to like me a lot, insisting I go down to her level so she can rub her head on mine.
Tamalpais (Tammy, Tamelapamela) is a Nubian with the dumbest face you ever did see. She's pretty calm and minds her own business, but if she sees a new human or hasn't been fed, she yells like a klaxon. It's impossible to get a picture of her that shows how dumb her face looks. She's been very cuddly with me recently, but I don't know how much it translates to other people.
