ARTIST INFORMATION

'Ласковый май' (Laskovy May, 'Tender May') is a musical group created by the head of Orenburg Boarding School No. 2's musical circle, Sergei Kuzentsov at the end of 1986. Initially it only consisted of the boarding school's pupils, including soloist Yuri Shatunov. Andrei Razin later joined 'Ласковый май', taking upon himself the responsibilities of a director. He moved the band's members to Moscow, where with his help 'Ласковый май' became one of the leaders of Soviet Estrada...

Due to disagreements with Razin at the beginning of 1989, Sergei Kuzentsov left the group, with almost the entire composition of the band. Together they started the group 'Мама'. Andrei Razin continued the development of 'Ласковый май', using new phonograms from 'Мама', as well as attracting new lyricists and soloists. He reorganized the group into the Studio for Gifted Teens, recruiting new members. Clones of 'Ласковый май' toured all over the country, part of which were Razin's.

The popularity of the group reached its climax in 1990, culminating in the massive review show 'Белые розы белой зимой' in January 1991. Then the May fever subsided. Financial disagreements between members, Andrei Razin's fascination with politics, and the changing musical fashion lead to the breakup of the group in early 1992. Today 'Ласковый май' remains as one of the symbols of the 80's in the USSR!
