My My Mai (jp. その気にさせてよ♡Myマイ舞
, Sono Kinisasete yo♡My My Mai) is an adult comedy ova consisting of 4 episodes, airing from 1993-1994. It is adapted from a manga with the same name.
It doesn't seem like this OVA is enjoyed by many on my side of the Pacific, at least nowadays. The Anime Review gave it a D-, calling it 'a very bad attempt to mimic Nagai Go', and it has a 5.7 on MyAnimeList (which is just a little above average). Personally, I enjoyed it, but I also wasn't going into it thinking it was going to be very good.
Waku Mai is a young girl who runs a consulting firm, tackling problems that have unorthodox solutions. Unfortunately, she is a very physically attractive woman, and always ends up unintentionally nude while working on her cases. From doctors in eastern medicine to old lady inkeepers, she somehow always ends up without her clothes...
In the first episode, a girl is struggling with an illness that no standard medicine can cure. The family sends someone out to Mai's firm who implores her to find the mysterious 'Dr. Ben K. Shinobi', who is a specialist in eastern medicine and usually hangs around the seedier parts of town. Unfortunately, she gets mistaken for one of the waitresses at a club, and is made to put on a much more revealing outfit. As she's being harassed by the bar's tenants, a mysterious, long-haired man comes out and punishes them for the way they treated her with acupuncture and acupressure methods. After this, he carries Mai to his room, and—believing she is about to be deflowered—is pleasantly surprised to see that the mysterious man is actually quite nice, and was just going to give her a massage. The man reveals himself as 'Black Count', and takes her to a woman who knows the town and everyone in it.
Later that night, it's revealed that the Count is wearing a wig, and that its removal causes his other personality to come out—Ben K. Shinobi! Unfortunately, Dr. Shinobi is an unethical monster of a man, being more interested in women and sex than medicine. The old lady reveals to Mai that the Count has split-personality disorder, and that the wig is what keeps Shinobi from coming out.
The next day, Mai asks the Count—without revealing to him his disorder—if there's any way to cure split-personality with eastern medicine. It turns out that yes, there is, but it's not something Mai really wants to do... The Count reveals that there is a pressure point just behind one of the male testicles that, if poked with a needle, will cure the disorder. Good luck, Mai!
The other episodes are much, much shorter. The second episode revolves around a rockstar who is so terrified of women that he believes he is allergic, but has to take part in a movie where he'll be one of the stars in an adult scene. After many attempts, it's discovered his phobia goes away if there's a more urgent situation at hand—in this case, the paparazzi finding him in a sexual situation with a woman. If the emergency goes away, though, he goes back to his normal self, and suffers anaphylaxis.
In the third episode, we are introduced to Yua, a witch or sorceress of some sort who exorcises ghosts and demons with her healing powers (which are actually heavy artillery). Due to Mai completely forgetting why she needed Dr. Shinobi, the family has called Yua to handle the girl's sickness. It turns out the girl is being taken captive by none other than Satan, so they put together a demon's trap to lure him out. Unfortunately, Yua is nuts, and instead falls in love with him instead of doing her job. Luckily, Mai arrives shortly with the Count, and she's able to drive Satan away with her sex appeal! And, of course, Jesus Christ.
The fourth episode revolves around an inn by the beach that is said to be haunted. Mai and her friends decide to stay for the night, and almost fall for all of the tricks of the inn—but soon learn that it's simply the old ladies having fun and scaring their tenants! Mai and her friends team up to pretend to be youkai and scare the innkeepers back, but the pants are scared back off of them when they realize that the ghost of one of the innkeeper's grandchildren was helping to scare them.
My My Mai has seen limited home release. The manga was serialized in Italy at one point, and it seems like the OVA itself was translated and dubbed into English alongside Italian. Other than that, it seems like that's the end for this series of stories. I believe the most recent re-issue of the OVA was on DVD in 2005, at least for English-speaking audiences.
