META - UPDATE HISTORY

This is a sometimes-updated list of all the edits I've made to the site. There used to be an update log in /index, however it seems like it'd get clogged pretty easily if I kept everything there. To make things easier for myself, I've made a page dedicated to it. That way, I can flesh out the description of any important updates.

Note that this is only for updates that are published to the online site, and not anything I might be working on behind the scenes.

SITE HISTORY

This website was created on 30 August 2019, shortly before I turned 16. I had originally intended it to be some sort of code sandbox and write information about my OCs, but such pages have been deleted from the site proper (though still exist on my computer for posterity and reference).

At the tail end of 2019, I began translating French songs into English, and would post a couple onto my site. At the time this had just been a small part of my site for fun, though it would eventually become as big as you see it today.

In 2020, I discovered the user profile feature on Neocities. Someone had left me a comment, and due to the fact I was writing some pretty private information, I panicked and turned off said profile and just pretended I didn't exist. I believe I stopped coding for the site some time after that, just out of embarrassment. Said pages have been long deleted, but only recently.

2021 saw the site's first major overhaul. I had seen a vbulletin forum with a nice theme and desired to recreate it as well as I could. This was before I really understood CSS, so the code is a nightmare and is basically held with tacky glue and a prayer. This was also when I began translating more songs into Russian, so I had a handfull of translation pages up (that were not the original French ones).

In 2022, I decided to fix it up again, this time focusing on more responsive code. The result was... passable. It worked, though all of my translation pages were kind of borked (albeit still readable). The translation hub page was very messy, and kingrat was basically broken for non-Chromium users. This was the last site theme I wrote any kind of OC information for, but those pages were never pushed publicly.

In 2023, my friend Vince began working on his Neocities, and that along with some Tumblr posts I had saw made me want to work on mine again. The site went through three different changes through this time:

The first change was my own attempt at making a layout. It worked pretty well and was legible on mobile devices, however it was very much not meant for them, and different displays would break them easily. Many pages were very plain, and I took the 'Web 1.0' thing a little more literally. A lot of translations were axed from this layout due to exhaustion.

The second change game with the layout generator from sadgrl.online. This change was a lot easier for mobile users, since the layout stayed the exact same. I eventually grew sick of both sadgrl and the layout, so I looked to change it eventually.

The third change is the one you're looking at right now. I asked my friend Vince if he could help me figure out how to code a layout I was thinking of, which I whipped up in MSPaint. He sent me the code on how that would work, and the site eventually made its way up to how it is now.

Many pages are still missing, and I'm contemplating adding OC information back onto the site, since it's a pretty fun idea. The Mega Man pages that were on the initial iteration of the site also have not been seen since, and I would like to bring that back, if I manage to figure out what I want to do with it.
